MILLENNIUM PROTOTYPE

THE ORIGINAL PROTOTYPE IS BEING CREATED HERE

BASED ON A MILLENNIUM CHASSIS
WITH THE ORIGINAL PARTS INSTALLED AT THE TIME

The information in this section comes from a collector who was able to find and purchase the original parts of the world's only known Millennium prototype. Using these original parts, the prototype is reconstructed as authentically as possible on the chassis of a
"Official Cup Edition Millennium" cars built (VIN ID on the VIN data list of VAG).
He is certainly a good contact person for questions specifically about the "Millennium Prototype"!

On the subject:

Before series production begins, the pilot departments, or in this case, "VW RACING GmbH" at the plants, build so-called pre-production cars, or "prototypes," which are then tested in everyday driving conditions. After the designs are approved, these cars are later handed over to VW-authorized scrap yards. Parts with stamped VINs or serial numbers are destroyed – other components apparently also find their way to Beetle enthusiasts, who often buy them.
Recently, the Austrian obtained a parts box that demonstrably originated from this prototype and this production series (…much points to the prototype exhibited in the UAE). Based on these comparisons and the resulting findings, it is clear that VW was officially aware of this special series and the presentation of the car in the UAE, was involved in the project, and used its corporate structures for the production of these cars.

CRYSTAL-CLEAR FACTS - VW built, tested & presented these prototypes in the UAE!

Let's take a closer look at the similarities and logical connections in the following images:

  • The first two images show a car in "Millennium Design" on German roads!
And this was *before* November 1st, 2000 because after that date, only the new EU-style license plates were issued! It bears German registration and a Braunschweig license plate number.
Based on the photo, the color of the TÜV inspection sticker appears to be GREEN which makes sense, as it would correspond to the year 2000!
The *only* known RSI in BLUE also initially bore a Braunschweig license plate? COINCIDENCE?

  • Also clearly visible is the single-pipe exhaust system on this "Millennium" car, which unmistakably bears the corporate signature complete with the "VW LOGO" and "E1 marking."

  • ... these stickers are identical to those on the prototype presented in the UAE: they are larger and positioned further forward closer to the door gap than the cars built for the production series!
Who was the supplier for VW's decorative graphics in Germany? ... Truly interesting lead to pursue!

  • The "E1 marking" is an ECE certification mark (governed by UN/ECE regulations); it confirms that the component in question has been tested and approved for use in Germany, the EU, and various other countries!

The questions arising from this:

  • How did this "Millennium Beetle" already come to be fitted with those specific rear ventilation grilles at such an early stage? These grilles are found on no other VW model not even on the RSI!

  • Why and under what authorization from VW did this very car (or one nearly identical to it) appear at the Dubai Motor Show on November 10, 1999, and subsequently in the brand-new showroom of VW's UAE importer, "Al Naboodah"**?

  • Why was *this specific prototype* presented by Al Naboodah to dealerships across the Gulf states in 1999a presentation that led to an order for 80 cars, which were then distributed to those various importers throughout the Gulf region according to strictly allocated quotas? (This sequence of events was finally re-confirmed as recently as 2025 by a representative from Al...) Naboodah Employees!

  • Why were parts and documentation never made available to the dealers, customers, buyers, and others involved?

  • Does a similar car exist anywhere else in the world one that was permitted to utilize VW design, know-how, and logos in some amateur's garage, and subsequently received conversion parts for a mere 80 vehicles from VW's own suppliers despite VW's official stance that parts for these cars never existed?

Questions upon questions, that VW ought to finally answer in order to put an end to the countless rumors circulating within the VW community regarding these cars.

**   This statement originates from a local automotive website in the UAE; the presentation held at the VW importer Al Naboodah, however, is a matter of fact and has been confirmed by an Al Naboodah employee!

A mix of the standard Beetle, RSI, CUP Beetle and excisting parts from stock!

A mix of standard Beetle, RSI, CUP Beetle and various stock vehicles!

Many of the parts on the car pictured above, which was presumably built for customer presentation purposes, appear to be from existing VW, RSI, or even CUP racing car stock. Some of these parts were apparently later modified at the customer's request. The data collection in the well-known RSI study program document also shows many identical or similar parts for this special series.

Here are a few striking differences between the presented car and the later sold "Dubai Beetle":

  • Split front spoiler - from the CUP car

  • Missing indicator covers in the spoiler

  • Larger rear spoiler - from the CUP car

  • Side mirrors - from the first generation Beetle

  • Bucket seats - from RECARO - IS2000

  • Mini spoiler above the windshield - later replaced by decorative stickers

  • DECOR - at the time of presentation slightly larger and positioned further forward towards the door gap

We are appealing for tips on this topic from contemporary witnesses at VW, people from the racing department, information on the recycling companies or previously unknown discovered material - like the one found here - which are very welcome.

Parts found at the RSI Cabrio Prototype - clearly from the "Dubai Beetle" production

Clear traces of the Cup Edition Millennium cars were also found on other cars from a VW depot, where a prototype of the "RSI CABRIO" was stored. On this car, which is obviously not an RSI Cabrio but a standard Beetle Cabrio with an RSI body kit, we found parts that were exclusively installed on and produced for the Cup Edition Millennium cars!

As mentioned, the convertible only uses the look of the RSI engine, but unfortunately, it's missing the second exhaust pipe. Therefore, the reversing light cover and two center grilles from the "Dubai Beetle" Cup Edition Millennium were used to hide the diffuser and exhaust ports of a genuine RSI in that location! ...The following pictures are facts and clear evidence of the parts used!

Statements like: "We don't know this car like this" are now completely contrary to the official facts, where VW data lists that surfaced in May 2026 prove exactly the opposite!

Why is there no desire to eliminate such obvious falsehoods?

Why are there no cars in the VW parts system, why none in the museum? It was all planned that way, and nobody was interested in making it public!

The owners of these cars and the fan community would appreciate an explanation, and it certainly wouldn't cause VAG any great trouble or loss as a result - OR WILL IT?

A LONG ROAD - BUT WORTH THE EFFORT HAS BEEN THE BASIS FOR

THE RAREST & MOST BEAUTIFUL NEW BEETLE SERIES EVER!
