GALLERY - CUP BEETLE

Although it is still not entirely clear in what order or even in parallel to the CUP EDITION MILLENNIUM Beetle was planned and built, there are many parallels to the RSI Beetle and the racing cup version, which must still be considered its inspiration. In addition, many technical parts from other models and accessory companies within the VW Group were incorporated.

The basis for the RENN CUP BEETLE was the platform of the standard New Beetle because the CUP cars were only equipped with 2-wheel drive.
(These should also have a low center of gravity for "handling" purposes)

In 1999, VW Motorsport converted a total of 40 New Beetles for Volkswagen's planned "New Beetle Cup." The basis for these conversions was an original New Beetle body shell, which was reinforced and fitted with a roll cage by the company Heggemann.
This was done to better market the New Beetle in Europe, with a prototype presentation in 1998 and a further presentation in the USA in 2000. This same approach had previously been successfully used with other models such as the Polo, Golf, and, in the case of competitors, the Renault R5 and similar vehicles.
They also frequently used well-known personalities, such as the rapper Smudo from the band Die Fantastischen Vier (The Fantastic Four)... see pictures!

The number of cars listed here likely includes the 1999 and 2000 Cup cars!

Changes from 2002:
A measurement system for precise engine data such as RPM, temperatures, and various pressures was introduced. This system can also read driving data such as speed, G-forces, and brake pressure.
